We are at a
critical moment in history in which our traditional training,
interpretations and ways of acting are insufficient to meet the
demands of our times. Today’s learning and demand for change and
new actions requires that we break with our old restrictive
habits. In business, we can no longer remain competitive by
matching or achieving results that are common place. Coaching is about learning how to change to achieve personal
and organizational fulfilment and bring about success.
Change requires
that we break with our habits, those conservative forces and
principles of coherence that has served us well to reach our
current level of performance. The coach can take the coachee to a
new place/level. It
is precisely because the coachee cannot see or know how to get to
this new place/level that coaching is needed. The coach also shows the coachee a bigger field to play in.
Learning new
habits and new ways of being requires the support of someone who
has the ability to see what you can’t see, distinguish patterns
that you are blind to, ask those questions that allow you to open
new possibilities and mirror and support your commitments. This is the role of the
personal coach and it is in this
context of personal growth and learning that coaching has
become a recognized career/profession.
